Themes of the Conference
The conference will aim to highlight recent evolutions in specialized
discourse research and innovative experiences in LSP teaching
- Christopher N. Candlin (Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia / The Open University, UK)
- Konrad Ehlich (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, München, Germany)
- Françoise Salager-Meyer (Universidad de Los Andes, Mérida, Venezuela)
The Conference will be hosted by CERLIS, the research centre on LSP operating at the University of Bergamo, an institution where research has always been in the foreground and where various national and international conferences have already been organized (see http://www.unibg.it/cerlis ).
LSP2005 will be held at the University of Bergamo (Università degli Studi di Bergamo, Facoltà di Lingue e Letterature Straniere) which is located in the Upper Town (Città Alta). Lectures, presentations and colloquia will take place in the venues of via Salvecchio and of Piazza Rosate (see the map). The Upper Town can be reached by bus or by funicular. Bus number 1, which runs every ten minutes from the railway station, takes you to the funicular (where you will need to show your ticket in order to pass through the gate). Bus number 1A, instead, takes you directly to the Upper Town (final stop at Colle Aperto). Note that tickets may not be bought on board, but are available from newsagents. The cost of the single fare is €1. A ticket for 10 rides (“tesserino per 10 corse”) costs € 7.50. The ticket has a 75-minute validity. From the Upper Town you can go back to the Lower Town either by taking the funicular again, or buses 1A/B/C from Colle Aperto. Bus 1C goes as far as Orio al Serio Airport.

Bergamo is in Northern Italy, 50 Kms north-east of Milan, on the way to Lake Garda and Venice. Thanks to its international airport (sometimes advertised as ‘Milan-Orio al Serio’, or Milan-BGY), Bergamo can be reached by plane from many European cities; alternatively, participants may fly to Milan and take a train or a bus to Bergamo.
