Roberta Facchinetti is Associate Professor of English at the University of Verona . Her research field and publications are mainly concerned with language description, textual analysis and pragmatics, with specific reference to modality (English Modal Verbs from Past to Present: CAN, COULD and beyond, 2001 ). This is done mostly by means of computerized corpora of both synchronic and diachronic English ('Drawbacks and Pitfalls of Machine-readable Texts for Linguistic Research'). She has also dealt with Early Modern English grammatical theory and lexicography ('Anthony Huish: A 17th-century English Grammarian, Peter Levins’ Lexicographic Approach').
